Cabinet Painting in Acton, Ontario

Kitchener Elite Cabinet Painting & Refinishing paints kitchen cabinets, vanities and built-ins for homeowners in Acton, from brick houses near Mill Street to the subdivisions on the edges of town. Acton is the farthest town we serve, 40 to 45 minutes from our Kitchener shop, so we book it differently from the rest of our area.

Rather than driving out for one small job at a time, we group Acton work onto set days and focus on kitchens and larger projects. That keeps travel off most bills and still gives every Acton kitchen one lead painter from the first day to the walkthrough.

We have finished more than 1,700 cabinet jobs over 16+ years, and many Acton kitchens are the same oak and melamine kitchens we paint every week in Kitchener. What changes here is the drive along Highway 7, the way we plan the week and the Halton Region services you use afterward.

Acton homes

Acton's Older Core and Newer Subdivisions

Acton's houses come in two clear eras. The streets around Mill Street, Church Street and Fairy Lake hold Victorian and early 1900s homes from the town's tannery years, while the subdivisions built from the 1970s onward fill out the edges of town.

Each era brings its own cabinets, and its own prep.

Century Homes Downtown

Most have a later kitchen, often 1980s oak or 1990s melamine, fitted into a room that is not quite square. Original cupboards and painted trim in any pre-1960 house get a lead check before we sand anything.

Oak Kitchens From the 1970s to the 1990s

Raised-panel oak is the kitchen we see most in Acton's older subdivisions. Oak needs Zinsser B-I-N to stop tannin bleed, and our page on painting oak cabinets explains optional grain filling at $35 per door or drawer face.

Melamine and Oak-Trimmed Kitchens

White melamine with oak edge trim was a 1990s favourite here. It takes INSL-X STIX bonding primer after a test patch, covered in detail on our painting melamine and laminate cabinets page.

How We Schedule Acton Jobs

Acton jobs run on set days, routed along Highway 7 through Guelph and Rockwood, so the drive is shared with other work east of Kitchener. A typical Acton kitchen follows the same 5 to 7 working days as anywhere else; we just plan the visits more tightly.

  1. Quote From Photos First

Most Acton quotes start from photos or a video call, which saves an hour and a half of round-trip driving before you even have a price. If we do need to see the kitchen, we book the visit on a day we are already in Rockwood or Guelph.

  2. Doors Go to Kitchener

On day one we protect the room, label every door, drawer front and hinge, and take the doors back to our booth. They spend 3 to 4 days there being primed, sprayed and cured.

  3. Boxes Sprayed on Site

Boxes, face frames and end panels are sprayed in place inside zip walls. The fridge, sink and stove stay usable through the job except on that one spray day.

  4. Doors Back and Walkthrough

After at least 24 to 48 hours of shop cure, the doors come back, hinges are adjusted and hardware fitted. You get a written care sheet and the warranty at the walkthrough.

Each stage is explained on our cabinet painting process page.

Worth the drive

Cabinet Painting Services for Acton Homes

Because every Acton trip is a long one, the work that makes the most sense here gets a lot done in a few visits. These are the jobs Acton homeowners book with us most often.

Full Kitchen Repaints

Doors in Renner 2K from the booth and boxes in Benjamin Moore ADVANCE on site, colour-matched and checked against a sample door. A medium kitchen of 21 to 35 pieces runs $3,400 to $5,200 before HST.

Doors-Only Refresh

If the boxes are in good shape or will be done later, we can take only the doors and drawer fronts. Our cabinet door painting service needs just two visits to your home.

Hardware and Soft-Close Hinges

Old oak kitchens usually have exposed hinges and dated pulls. Our cabinet hardware upgrades add Blum soft-close hinges at $14 each and fill old holes at $6 each while the doors are in the shop.

Vanities Added to a Kitchen

A vanity on its own is a small job for the drive, but added to an Acton kitchen it rides along on the same visits. A single vanity is $650 to $1,100.

Halton Hills

Halton Region Rules That Differ From Waterloo Region

Acton is part of the Town of Halton Hills in Halton Region, so the waste services you use after a paint job are Halton's, not Waterloo Region's or Wellington County's. The provincial rules that protect you as a customer stay exactly the same.

Here is how that plays out for an Acton cabinet job:

  • Leftover paint: Halton Region takes household hazardous waste at its depot at the regional waste management site in Milton, and paint stores in the Product Care paint return program accept latex and oil paint too.
  • Contract rights: Ontario's Consumer Protection Act gives a 10-day cooling-off period on contracts signed at home, and your final bill cannot exceed the estimate by more than 10% without your consent. See Ontario's home renovation rights.
  • Permits: painting existing cabinets needs no building permit from the Town of Halton Hills.
  • Paperwork: we carry WSIB coverage and liability insurance, and send a WSIB clearance certificate on request, usually the same day.

We take all of our own cans, rags and masking back to Kitchener, so the Milton trip is only for paint you already had.

Our farthest stop

Acton and the Highway 7 Corridor

Acton sits at the western edge of Halton Hills, 40 to 45 minutes from our shop along Highway 7 through Guelph and Rockwood. That is a little past our usual 30-minute radius, so we take Acton bookings mainly for kitchens and larger jobs.

Victorian and early 1900s homes around Mill Street, Church Street and the GO station.

Fairy Lake

Older houses and 1950s to 1970s homes near Prospect Park and the lake.

Acton's Subdivisions

Family homes from the 1970s onward, with oak, melamine and builder Shaker kitchens.

Rural Halton Hills

Country homes toward Limehouse and Ballinafad, quoted case by case for the drive.

Questions

Acton FAQs

Distance is the first thing Acton homeowners ask about, so we answer it plainly.

Do you travel to Acton for small jobs?

Yes, with two conditions. Our minimum job is $650, and small jobs under $1,500 may carry a flat $75 travel fee, which we show on the written quote. We also try to place small Acton jobs on a day we are already in town for a kitchen.

Where can I drop off old paint in Acton?

Halton Region's household hazardous waste depot at its waste management site in Milton takes old paint and stains. Check Halton's waste pages for hours, or return paint to a store in the Product Care program.

How long will my Acton kitchen be out of use?

About one day. The fridge, sink and stove work through the job except on the day we spray the boxes, and the full kitchen takes 5 to 7 working days with doors in our shop for 3 to 4 of them.

How far ahead should I book?

Most bookings are 2 to 3 weeks out, and Acton dates follow our Highway 7 route days. Spring and the weeks before Christmas fill first, so ask early if you have a deadline.
