Book the Quiet Weeks
Late fall and January to February are quiet for most Elora hosts, and they also fall outside our spring rush. A typical rental kitchen needs 5 to 7 working days, so one blocked week is usually enough.

Elora, Fergus and Centre Wellington
Kitchener Elite Cabinet Painting & Refinishing paints kitchen cabinets, vanities and built-ins in Elora, Fergus and the rest of Centre Wellington. Most of our work here happens in two very different kinds of house: limestone homes from the 1800s near the Grand River, and newer family homes and rental properties built as the town has grown.
Old stone houses rarely have a straight wall, and their built-ins were fitted by hand, so we scribe, fill and finish in place instead of assuming anything is square. Rental kitchens near the Gorge are the opposite challenge: they have to be done between guest bookings, with nothing left half finished.
We have painted cabinets across Waterloo Region and Wellington County for 16+ years and more than 1,700 jobs. Elora sits 30 to 35 minutes from our spray shop, and we tell you up front whether the drive adds anything to your quote.
Stone houses
The stone houses on and around Metcalfe, Geddes and Mill Streets date mostly from the mid to late 1800s, and many still have early built-ins: corner cupboards, bookcases beside a fireplace and pantry dressers. Painting them is slower work than a new kitchen, and we quote it that way.
Three things set these homes apart from anything built after the war.
Any cupboard or built-in in a pre-1960 house may carry lead paint under later coats. We test before any sanding and change our prep and cleanup if the result is positive, following Health Canada's lead-based paint guidance.
Stone walls bow and old floors slope, so built-ins were shimmed or scribed to fit. We caulk the gaps against plaster and stone, and we finish fixed pieces where they stand inside zip walls rather than prying them off a 150-year-old wall.
Hand-built cupboards often have loose face frames, split stiles or doors that no longer close. Our cabinet repair service re-glues and fills those first, usually for $40 to $150 per item.

2000s and newer
Elora's newer neighbourhoods on the south and east edges of town went up mostly from the 2000s onward, and their kitchens follow the builder patterns of the time. Expect MDF or maple Shaker doors on melamine boxes, a large island, and finishes in espresso, grey or bright white.
These kitchens are usually in good shape, so the job is a colour change rather than a rescue. The requests we hear most from these streets:
A medium kitchen of 21 to 35 pieces runs $3,400 to $5,200 before HST, and our pricing page breaks every item down. White over espresso sometimes needs a third topcoat, and that coat is already included.

Rentals near the Gorge
Visitors come to Elora all year for the Gorge, the Elora Mill, the Quarry and the downtown shops, and plenty of homes near the core are rented by the night. A rental kitchen needs a finish that survives a lot of hands and a schedule that never cancels a guest.

Renner 2K on the doors is crosslinked, so it stands up to the scrubbing a cleaner gives it between stays. In a rental we steer owners to satin over matte, because it wipes clean more easily.
Soft whites, greige and muted greens look good in listing photos and suit stone and board-and-batten interiors. We time the walkthrough so you can reshoot the listing before the next guest arrives.
Centre Wellington
Elora is 30 to 35 minutes from our Kitchener shop by Highway 85 and Wellington Road 7, and Fergus is a few minutes further along the Grand. Kitchens and larger jobs carry no travel fee; a small job under $1,500 may carry a flat $75 fee, and we show it on the quote.
Stone homes near the Gorge and the Grand River in the core, plus newer subdivisions on the south and east sides.
The small village just northwest of Elora along Irvine Creek, with older homes on generous lots.
Scottish-built stone downtown along St. Andrew Street and the river, with large newer neighbourhoods at the north and south ends.
Farm and country homes between Elora, Fergus and Belwood Lake, mostly on private wells.
Leftover paint
Elora is in Wellington County, so old paint goes through the County's waste system, not the Region of Waterloo depots that Kitchener households use. Wellington County runs its own waste facilities and household hazardous waste drop-off days, so check the County's waste pages for current sites and dates before you load the car.
Many paint stores also take latex and oil paint back through Product Care's Ontario paint recycling program. As for our own job, every can, rag and roll of masking paper leaves with our crew.

Questions
Elora owners usually ask about bookings, old houses and the winter.
Yes. Send us your blocked dates and we schedule the work inside them, with doors in our shop for 3 to 4 days and the crew in the home for 3 to 4 days of a typical kitchen. If a guest has to arrive mid-job, we can plan the box-spraying day away from it, but a clear week is far easier.
Yes, and we finish them in place inside zip walls with a negative-air fan venting out a window. We test for lead first in any pre-1960 home and repair loose joints before priming.
Five-piece wood doors can show hairline cracks at the joints when furnace or radiator heat drops indoor humidity below 25%. Running a humidifier at 35 to 50% keeps that to a minimum; seasonal joint cracks are wood movement, so the warranty does not cover them.
