Media and Entertainment Walls
Espresso media units from the same builder as the kitchen are an easy match. Our entertainment centre painting finishes them in place in 2 to 4 days.

Rockwood, Guelph/Eramosa Township
Kitchener Elite Cabinet Painting & Refinishing paints kitchen cabinets, media walls and built-ins in Rockwood and across Guelph/Eramosa Township. The village has grown fast over the last two decades, and many builder kitchens put in during the 2000s and 2010s are now ready to trade a dark stain for a lighter colour.
Rockwood has an older side too: limestone houses and century homes near the Eramosa River and the conservation area, where fireplace surrounds and built-in cupboards need a gentler approach than a new-build kitchen.
Our crew brings 16+ years and more than 1,700 cabinet jobs to every Rockwood home. The village is 35 to 40 minutes from our spray shop by Highway 7 through Guelph, and we usually pair Rockwood visits with Guelph and Acton work in the same week.
2000s and 2010s homes
Most Rockwood kitchens built between the early 2000s and the late 2010s came with espresso or dark cherry-stained maple, or MDF Shaker doors, on melamine boxes. They are structurally sound, so painting them a light colour costs a fraction of replacing them.
Espresso was the builder colour of that era, and it is the colour we are asked to cover most in Rockwood.
Factory-stained maple gets a thorough degrease and scuff, then a bonding or stain-blocking primer depending on the finish. White over espresso sometimes needs a third topcoat, which is already in the price, and our kitchen cabinet painting service covers the full sequence.
MDF gives the smoothest painted result of any door, provided the cut edges are sealed. We prime raw MDF edges twice before the topcoat, as explained on our painting MDF cabinet doors page.
Kitchens that open onto the great room need a colour that works with the floor and the fireplace wall too. Benjamin Moore Simply White and Sherwin-Williams Alabaster are the two whites Rockwood families choose most, and the cabinet colour guide shows more.
A builder kitchen of 21 to 35 pieces runs $3,400 to $5,200 before HST, and 36 to 55 pieces runs $5,200 to $7,800. Swapping the original hinges for Blum soft-close adds $14 per hinge.
Beyond the kitchen
Newer Rockwood homes often have more painted millwork than the kitchen alone. A media wall in the great room, a built-in beside the gas fireplace and builder closets upstairs can all change colour with the kitchen.
Espresso media units from the same builder as the kitchen are an easy match. Our entertainment centre painting finishes them in place in 2 to 4 days.
Shelving and cupboards flanking a fireplace, in new homes and old stone ones alike. See our fireplace built-in painting, from $1,200 to $3,800.
Builder closet systems and freestanding wardrobes in bedrooms and walk-ins. Our closet and wardrobe painting runs $900 to $2,800.
Old Rockwood
Rockwood's older core was built from the same limestone that forms the cliffs, caves and glacial potholes of the Rockwood Conservation Area, and a number of those stone houses still stand near the Eramosa River and the old woollen mill ruins. Inside, they tend to have deep window sills, plaster walls and built-in cupboards rather than a fully fitted kitchen.
Finishing them well comes down to a few habits:

Along Highway 7
We reach Rockwood in 35 to 40 minutes by Highway 7 through Guelph, and the hamlets of Guelph/Eramosa are within a few minutes of that route.
Stone homes in the old village and the newer subdivisions built since the 2000s.
A riverside hamlet of older homes and cottages on the Eramosa, south of Rockwood.
Country homes and farmhouses in the township's north end.
Rural and estate homes just north of the Guelph city limits.
Local services
Rockwood is part of Guelph/Eramosa Township in Wellington County, so its garbage, recycling and household hazardous waste programs are the County's, separate from the City of Guelph next door. Check Wellington County's waste information for current hazardous waste sites and drop-off days before taking old paint anywhere.
Paint stores in Product Care's Ontario paint program also take back leftover latex and oil paint. We remove our own cans and masking from every Rockwood job, and homes on private wells in rural Eramosa should keep paint rinse water out of the septic system.

Questions
Rockwood questions tend to start with that espresso stain.
Yes. We degrease, scuff and prime with INSL-X STIX or Zinsser B-I-N depending on the factory finish, then spray two topcoats; a third topcoat is added at no charge if the dark stain still shadows through. Most Rockwood espresso kitchens end up in a warm white in satin.
Usually 2 to 3 weeks. Spring from March to June and the weeks before Christmas fill fastest, and Rockwood dates line up with our Highway 7 route days, so a few extra weeks' notice helps if you have a deadline.
Yes, and it is the most efficient way to do it. Both use the same colour and sheen, the doors go to the shop together, and the media wall is sprayed in place during the same on-site days.
