Cream painted farm kitchen cabinets in Wellesley

Wellesley, St. Clements and Linwood

Cabinet Painting in Wellesley Township, Ontario

Kitchener Elite Cabinet Painting & Refinishing paints cabinets in Wellesley village, St. Clements, Linwood, Hawkesville and the farms between them. Wellesley Township is one of the most rural corners of the Region of Waterloo, and its kitchens, back entries and shop cupboards are built to work hard.

Plenty of homes here still have the solid-wood cabinets they were built with, often by a local cabinetmaker, and we would rather help you keep good wood than cover it without reason. When paint is the right answer, those cabinets get the same care in our booth as any city kitchen.

We bring 16+ years and more than 1,700 cabinet jobs to every Wellesley visit. Erb Street West and Regional Road 9 take us from our shop to the village in 25 to 30 minutes, and because Wellesley is inside the Region there is no travel charge.

Three villages

Village Homes in Wellesley, St. Clements and Linwood

Each of the township's three larger villages has its own mix of houses, and the cabinets follow the house. Here is what we usually find when we open the doors.

Wellesley Village

Older brick and frame houses near the millpond, and 1980s to 2000s homes on the newer streets around them. Kitchens are often oak or maple from a local shop, sometimes with a later laminate counter and a tired clear coat.

St. Clements

The village closest to Kitchener has a core of older homes and a ring of 1990s to 2010s family houses. Those newer builder kitchens, in oak, maple or white thermofoil, are the ones most often ready for a colour change.

Linwood

In the township's northwest corner, surrounded by Mennonite farms, Linwood has modest village homes with a lot of original solid-wood cupboards. Those are often worth repairing and refreshing rather than replacing.

Kitchen and beyond

Cabinet Painting Services for Wellesley Homes

In a Wellesley farmhouse the kitchen is only part of the story. The back entry, the laundry and the shop cupboards take more wear than anything inside, and they deserve the same finish.

Garage and Workshop Cabinets

Cupboards in a heated shop, drive shed or attached garage. Our garage cabinet painting runs $900 to $2,400.

Mudrooms and Back Entries

Lockers, boot benches and coat cupboards by the barn door. See our mudroom cabinet painting for colours that hide dust.

Refinishing Original Wood

When the wood is good, a clear-coat refresh may beat paint. Our cabinet refinishing service explains the options.

Working rooms

Farm Kitchens, Mudrooms and Workshops

A Wellesley farm kitchen is often the busiest room on the property, with a back door straight from the barn or the drive shed. The cabinets nearest that door take boots, gloves, feed dust and the odd wet dog, so we plan the finish for wear first and looks second.

Lower Doors by the Back Entry

Renner 2K on the doors is crosslinked and far tougher than a one-part paint, which is what a farm entry needs. A mid-tone such as Sherwin-Williams Rookwood Dark Green hides dust between wipes better than bright white.

Workshop and Shop Cupboards

We need the space at 15°C or warmer and power for our sprayer and negative-air fan. In an unheated drive shed that means booking between late spring and early fall, or running a heater for a day first.

Big Family Kitchens

Farm kitchens with 35 or more pieces are common, and those fall in the $5,200 to $7,800 range for 36 to 55 pieces before HST. The fridge, sink and stove keep working except on the one day we spray the boxes.

Paint or keep the wood

Respecting Original Solid-Wood Cabinetry

If your cabinets are solid oak, maple or cherry from a local shop and the finish is only tired, keeping the wood is often the better call. We will tell you so, even when it means a smaller job for us.

Painted wood can be stripped later, but it is slow, messy work, so think about the grain before you choose. Full per-piece rates are on our cabinet painting pricing page.

West on Regional Road 9

Wellesley Township Hamlets and Farms

We reach Wellesley village in 25 to 30 minutes by Erb Street West and Regional Road 9, and the hamlets and farms of the township fall inside the same drive. There is no travel charge anywhere in the township.

Hawkesville

A small hamlet on the Conestogo River near the Woolwich line, with older homes and farm properties.

Crosshill

Farm country west of Wellesley village, mostly century farmhouses and country homes.

Farms on the concessions

Working farms across the township, many on private wells, often with a shop or drive shed to finish too.

If you live in the village core, avoid asking for a door pickup or return on the late September Saturday of the Wellesley Apple Butter and Cheese Festival, when the streets fill with visitors.

Disposal

Leftover Paint and Region of Waterloo Depots

Wellesley shares the Region of Waterloo's household hazardous waste program with Kitchener and Waterloo. The nearest Region of Waterloo depot is at 925 Erb St W in Waterloo, on the same road we drive to reach you.

Paint stores in the Product Care program take back latex and oil paint too, and we carry our own empties and masking away from every job.

  • Keep touch-up cans in the house, not an unheated drive shed: frozen latex is ruined
  • Label each can with the room and colour name so touch-ups match
  • Never rinse paint into a septic system or a floor drain in the barn

Questions

Wellesley FAQs

Farm and village owners ask us much the same handful of things.

Do you paint workshop and shop cabinets on farms?

Yes, as long as the space is at 15°C or warmer and has power. Workshop and garage cupboards run $900 to $2,400, and the doors come back to our booth like any kitchen door.

Do you serve Linwood and Hawkesville?

Yes. Both are inside our usual drive, and like every Wellesley Township address they pay no travel charge.

How long does a big farm kitchen take?

A kitchen past 40 pieces takes 7 to 10 working days, with our crew in the house for 4 to 5 of them. A typical kitchen of 25 to 40 pieces takes 5 to 7 working days, and we plan around planting or harvest weeks if you tell us when they fall.

Can you repair old solid-wood doors before painting?

Yes. We re-glue loose joints, fill gouges with two-part wood filler and fix split stiles, usually for $40 to $150 per item, before any primer goes on.
