Single and Double Vanities
Doors and drawer fronts come off and go to our spray booth, while the vanity box, face frame and toe-kick are sprayed in place. Double vanities with a centre bank of drawers get the same treatment, piece by piece.

Vanities, linen towers and powder rooms
A bathroom vanity is the smallest cabinet job in most houses and one of the trickiest to get right. Kitchener Elite Cabinet Painting & Refinishing has painted vanities, linen towers and powder room cabinets across Waterloo Region since 2010, from 1980s oak ensuites in Forest Heights to builder-grade melamine in Doon South.
Steam, splashes, wet bath mats and mop water reach a vanity every single day, so we treat it as a wet-room job rather than a tiny kitchen. That means opening the sink base before we quote, choosing a topcoat that stands up to hot showers, and telling you exactly when the room is yours again.
With more than 1,700 jobs behind us, we can usually tell from a few photos whether your vanity is a good candidate for paint or needs a repair first. Most single vanities are finished in 2 to 3 days over two visits, with our 1-year labour warranty in writing.
What we paint
Painting a bathroom vanity gives the room a new look without touching the countertop, sink, faucet or tile. We paint every kind of bathroom cabinet, from a single 24 in powder room vanity to a double vanity with a matching linen tower.
Many homeowners add the vanity to a kitchen booking, while others start with one bathroom to see the finish before committing to the rest of the house.
Doors and drawer fronts come off and go to our spray booth, while the vanity box, face frame and toe-kick are sprayed in place. Double vanities with a centre bank of drawers get the same treatment, piece by piece.
Tall linen cabinets and wall-hung units over the toilet are painted to match the vanity, or in a second colour if you want contrast. Tall doors are priced as full-height panels because they have more surface to prep and spray.
Wood-framed medicine cabinets and mirror surrounds can be painted to tie in with the vanity. The mirror glass is masked edge to edge, and recessed metal cabinets are left as they are.
Powder rooms are the quickest win in the house because guests see them most. Ensuites take longer only because they tend to have two sinks, more drawers and a tower or two.
Wet-room wear
Kitchen cabinets usually fail from grease, but vanities fail from water. Paint on a vanity peels first where moisture sits: the bottom edge of the doors, the toe-kick and the face frame beside the sink.
These are the conditions we plan for on every bathroom job:
Most of these are prep and product problems, not paint problems. A properly degreased, sanded and primed vanity with a crosslinked topcoat handles daily splashes, while standing water from a slow leak will beat any finish.

Sink-base check
Before we quote a vanity, we look inside the sink base, because paint will not fix swollen particleboard, mould or rot. Most vanity bases from the 1990s and 2000s are particleboard, and once water gets into the raw core it puffs up and crumbles.
Send us a photo of the open sink cabinet with your quote request and look for these signs:
If the plumbing is still dripping, have a plumber fix the leak first. Small damage, such as a split stile or a swollen edge, can often be handled by our cabinet repair service for about $40 to $150 per item before we paint.
If the whole sink-base floor has collapsed, we will tell you honestly that the box needs replacing. Painting over it would only hide the problem for a few months.

Colour ideas
A painted vanity is often the biggest block of colour in a small bathroom, so a bold choice can feel more daring than it really is. We spray a sample door in your colour and sheen before anything goes on the vanity, and our cabinet colour guide has more combinations.
Benjamin Moore Hale Navy (HC-154) with brushed brass pulls is a classic vanity combination. It anchors a white or marble-look top and hides the scuffs from feet and laundry baskets.
Sage and grey-greens such as Sherwin-Williams Pewter Green (SW 6208) suit bathrooms with wood accents or warm floor tile. They work with brass, matte black or chrome hardware.
Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter (HC-172) is a safe pick when the tile is beige or the house is going on the market. It pairs with almost any existing faucet finish.
Benjamin Moore White Dove (OC-17) brightens a windowless powder room and keeps it feeling larger. White shows water spots less than dark colours, which helps with our hard local water.
Two visits
A single vanity takes 2 to 3 days from start to finish, with our crew in your home for two visits. A double vanity with a linen tower usually sits at the long end of that range.
Empty the vanity and clear the countertop before we arrive. Our full cabinet painting process explains each stage in more detail.
We cover the floor, mask the countertop, sink, faucet, mirror and tile, then label and remove every door, drawer front and hinge. The box is degreased twice, sanded, filled, primed and sprayed in place.
The doors go to our booth at 330 Gage Ave for primer and two coats of Renner 2K. They rack for at least 24 to 48 hours before they come back.
We rehang the doors, adjust the hinges, fit the hardware and touch up any marks. You get a written care sheet and the warranty before we leave.
The sink and toilet stay usable throughout, except while the box is being sprayed. We ask you to skip showers in that bathroom on spray day, then run the exhaust fan during showers for the first week.
Pricing
Painting a single bathroom vanity costs $650 to $1,100 before HST, and a double vanity costs $1,000 to $1,700. The price depends on the number of doors and drawers, the door style, the material and any repairs to the sink base.

| Item | Typical price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single vanity | $650 to $1,100 | Box, doors and drawer fronts; matches our $650 minimum job |
| Double vanity | $1,000 to $1,700 | Includes a centre drawer bank |
| Linen tower or full-height door | $160 to $220 per tall door | Plus the cabinet box |
| Vanity added to a kitchen job | $110 to $150 per door, $75 to $95 per drawer front | Priced per piece within the same booking |
| Blum soft-close hinge | $14 per hinge | Supplied and installed |
| Swollen edge or split stile repair | Usually $40 to $150 per item | Quoted after we see it |
Because the vanity would carry the full minimum on its own, adding it to a kitchen or laundry room booking is the most cost-effective way to do it. Our cabinet painting price guide lists every extra, from interiors to grain filling.
FAQ
Most questions about vanity painting come down to two things: how long the bathroom is out of action, and how to keep the new finish looking good.
Yes, from the day after the box is sprayed. Run the exhaust fan during every shower in the first week, and leave the door open so steam does not settle on the fresh finish.
The paint is dry to the touch in about an hour but reaches full hardness at around 30 days, so treat it gently for the first month.
Yes, and we almost always do. Cultured marble, quartz, granite and laminate tops are masked with tape and paper, and the sink, faucet and backsplash are covered before any spraying starts.
Yes. Wood medicine cabinet frames, linen towers, over-toilet units and the doors of built-in linen closets can all be painted in the same visit, in the vanity colour or a second colour for a flat $250.
Wipe with warm water and a drop of dish soap on a soft cloth, then dry the surface. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach and acetone, which dull satin finishes and are not covered by the warranty.
If the box is solid and the countertop is in good shape, painting is usually the better buy, since a new vanity often means a new top, new plumbing connections and tile repairs. If the sink base has rotted, replacement is the honest answer.
