Cabinet Painting in Waterloo, Ontario

Kitchener Elite Cabinet Painting & Refinishing paints kitchen cabinets, vanities and built-ins all over Waterloo, from honey oak kitchens on Beechwood's crescents to compact condo kitchens in the towers around Uptown. Our Kitchener shop is 10 to 15 minutes away up Westmount Road, so Waterloo has been part of our daily route since we opened in 2010.

Waterloo's homes came in distinct waves: 1970s and 1980s oak in Beechwood and Westvale, 1990s oak and maple in Laurelwood, Columbia Forest and Eastbridge, newer builder kitchens in Vista Hills, and student rentals in Northdale between the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University. Each wave needs different prep, and after more than 1,700 jobs we usually know which one we are walking into before the first door comes off.

We work for Waterloo homeowners, condo owners and landlords alike, with a fixed written quote, WSIB coverage and a 1-year labour warranty on every job.

Cabinet Painting Services for Waterloo Homes

Waterloo calls tend to be about one of three things: an oak kitchen that feels dated, a condo kitchen that needs to look sharper for resale, or rental cabinets that have to survive another set of tenants.

Kitchen Cabinet Painting

Full kitchens in Beechwood, Laurelwood and Columbia Forest, with doors sprayed in our shop and boxes finished in place. A medium kitchen of 21 to 35 pieces runs $3,400 to $5,200 before HST.

Painting Oak Cabinets

West Waterloo's oak kitchens need B-I-N primer to stop tannin bleed, plus optional grain filling at $35 per face for a smoother look.

Condo Cabinet Painting

Uptown and university-area condos, planned around building hours, elevator bookings and a certificate of insurance for the property manager.

Bathroom Vanity Painting

Vanities from $650 to $1,100, prepped for the mineral spotting that Waterloo's hard groundwater leaves on sink-base doors.

West Waterloo kitchens

1980s and 1990s Oak Kitchens in Beechwood, Laurelwood and Columbia Forest

Most kitchens we paint in west Waterloo are solid oak or oak veneer, installed when these subdivisions went up between the late 1970s and the early 2000s. Beechwood and Westvale tend to have cathedral-arch raised panel doors in golden oak, while Laurelwood and Columbia Forest lean to flatter recessed panels in oak or maple.

Oak paints well, but it pushes back in two ways: tannins in the wood bleed yellow-brown through water-based paint, and the open grain shows through every coat.

  • Two rounds of Krud Kutter to lift decades of cooking grease and furniture polish
  • Zinsser B-I-N shellac primer on every oak surface to lock in tannins
  • Optional Aqua Coat grain filling at $35 per door or drawer face, which smooths the texture a lot but never 100%
  • Cathedral-arch doors kept, or swapped for new MDF Shaker doors painted to match the boxes
  • A third topcoat, included, when white goes over dark oak

A Beechwood kitchen of 30 to 35 pieces typically lands in our medium range of ,400 to ,200, plus grain filling if you choose it. Our guide to painting oak cabinets covers tannin bleed and grain in depth, and the cabinet colour guide helps narrow down whites, greiges and greens.

Uptown condos

Uptown Waterloo Condos and Townhomes

Yes, we paint condo kitchens in Uptown Waterloo, and the building's rules shape the schedule more than the cabinets do. Most towers along King Street and Caroline Street allow contractor work from about 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekdays, with the service elevator booked and padded in advance.

Condo kitchens are small and share building air, so every door and drawer front is sprayed in our Kitchener booth instead of in your suite. Only the boxes, end panels and any island are sprayed on site, inside zip walls with a filtered fan venting out a window or balcony door.

  • Certificate of insurance sent to your property manager before day 1
  • Elevator and loading area booked through the management office
  • Ram Board and masking from the suite door to the kitchen
  • Condo kitchens of up to 20 pieces from $2,400 to $3,400 before HST
  • Townhomes near Waterloo Park handled like houses, with more flexible hours

Building approvals, notices and elevator logistics are covered in more depth on our condo cabinet painting service.

Student rentals

Rental Turnovers Near the University of Waterloo and Laurier

Student rental cabinets in Northdale and along Columbia Street and University Avenue get painted between leases, mostly from May to August. Landlords want two things: a finish that survives a houseful of students and a job that is done before the next lease starts.

Spring is also our busiest season for family kitchens, so rental work near the campuses goes best when it is booked early.

Book in Winter, Paint in Summer

Landlords who send photos between January and March get first pick of the May to August window, when most Northdale units turn over.

Repairs Before Paint

Ripped hinges, swollen sink-base edges and chipped corners are fixed first through our cabinet repair service, usually $40 to $150 per item.

A Finish That Takes Abuse

Doors get Renner 2K in the shop, the hardest coating we use, in satin or semi-gloss so grease and fingerprints wipe off between tenants.

One Colour Across Your Units

Pick one durable mid-tone for every unit you own, and future touch-ups stay simple from one house to the next.

Paint disposal

Getting Rid of Leftover Paint in Waterloo

Take leftover paint, stain and solvent to the Region of Waterloo household hazardous waste depot at 925 Erb St W, right here in Waterloo. Paint does not belong in the garbage or down a drain, and the depot is the simplest place for Waterloo residents to drop it.

Half-full cans from an old DIY attempt can also go to a Product Care paint return site at many paint stores. We take all of our own empties and leftovers with us, so the only cans you deal with are the ones already in your basement.

Questions

Waterloo Cabinet Painting FAQs

Waterloo homeowners, condo owners and landlords tend to ask about building rules, the student calendar and how soon we can start.

Do you paint cabinets in Uptown Waterloo condo buildings?

Yes. We book the elevator through management, send a certificate of insurance to the property manager, work within the building's hours and spray the doors off site in our shop, so very little paint is used inside the suite.

Can you finish a student rental before September move-in?

Yes, if you book by spring. A typical rental kitchen takes 5 to 7 working days, and our May to August calendar fills early, so send photos by March or April for the best choice of dates.

How soon can you start a job in Waterloo?

Usually 2 to 3 weeks after you approve the quote. We send a written quote within 1 business day of receiving photos, and spring and the weeks before Christmas book up fastest.

Does Waterloo's hard water affect painted vanities?

It leaves white mineral spots on sink-base doors rather than damaging the paint itself. Wipe splashes with a soft cloth and a mild cleaner, and skip abrasive pads, which dull a satin finish and are not covered by our warranty.

Our bathroom vanity painting service preps sink bases with this in mind.

Do you charge for travel to Waterloo?

No. There is no travel charge anywhere in Waterloo Region, and most Waterloo homes are 10 to 15 minutes from our shop.
