New Hamburg's core
Older Homes Along the Nith River in New Hamburg
New Hamburg's oldest streets follow the Nith River through the middle of town, close to the big waterwheel on the riverbank and the shops on Peel Street. Many of those houses have been renovated more than once, so one kitchen can hold original cupboards, 1990s thermofoil and a newer island all at the same time.
Low-lying blocks near the river also tend to have damp basements, which matters for any cabinet below grade.
Basement Bars and Kitchenettes
Below-grade cabinets in a damp basement often have swollen particleboard at the toe kick or sink base. Paint will not fix swelling or mould, so we repair or replace the affected box first and recommend a dehumidifier before we prime.
Lead Checks in Pre-1960 Houses
Original cupboards, trim and built-ins in New Hamburg's older homes may carry lead paint under later coats. We test before sanding, as Health Canada advises, and adjust our prep and cleanup if the result is positive.
1990s Thermofoil Renovations

Their kitchens are mostly 5 to 20 years old and structurally sound, which makes them ideal for paint.
